You’ve decided to freshen up your site–that’s exciting! A new look and brand can be a fun change and make a difference for your readers and traffic but there are some drawbacks we want to address. If you are doing a site rebrand, here are some things to know as well as the information Monumetric will need from you.
Changing the theme of your site is not the same as a site rebrand. We consider a site rebrand to mean the actual URL of your site changes. The reason Monumetric needs to know when you change your URL is that ad providers will only run ads on confirmed and approved URLs. When you joined Monumetric, we approved your site with ad providers, but if the URL changes this causes revenue issues as ad providers no longer recognize where the ad calls are coming from. We can only help resolve this when we are informed of the change so please keep us apprised of your plans.
The drawback of changing your URL means that you are starting at square one with all search engine optimizations and authority. It can take years to build back up what you organically developed with the previous URL. Just because you change the direct URL and domain name of your site doesn’t mean that existing links across the web referencing your site will be updated accordingly. This means that the reach your site had across the internet is no longer recognized by Google or other search engines.
If you simply changed the look of your site with a new theme, this won’t have the same negative impact. New themes can create better layouts for user experiences and possibly more optimal ad placement locations. It is possible that ad code gets accidentally removed when new themes are added so sending a quick email to the Success team allows us to verify everything with your ads is monetizing correctly. Be sure to note that a theme change won’t be the driver for your site growth. The most important thing to focus on for growth is consistent quality content.
If you are rebranding your site (changing the URL), please email success@monumetric.com and include the following information:
- The previous site name AND the new site name
- The previous URL AND the new URL
- Current admin credentials to the new URL so we can have access to get approvals made and ads back up and running
