Redirects or Malvertising Bad Ads

Redirects are malicious, unwanted, and illegally served ads that take over the reader’s browsing experience by having a spammy ad cover the webpage or by having the reader routed to an entirely new tab and URL. Some are easy to click out of while some may freeze up an entire browser. Regardless of how it occurs, the result is a bad user experience and something that Monumetric takes very seriously.

Monumetric partners with Confiant, the leader in cybersecurity. They excel in identifying and thwarting Malvertising attacks with an extensive network of integrations directly embedded into the ad tech infrastructure of the web.

Just some of the unwanted ads and ad behaviors they help us block include:

  1. Ad stacking
  2. Criminal Scams
  3. Fake Ad Server
  4. Counterfeit Products
  5. Fake Endorsements
  6. Pop-Up Ads
  7. Auto-play Sound Video Ads

Along with that valuable partnership, we follow a Five-Step Defense Plan to proactively stop redirects from happening or take swift reactive action if one has been reported.

Five-Step Defense Plan

The first three steps of our defense prevent bad ads from reaching a site.

Step 1: We block bad ads on all three levels of the ad lifecycle. In the first step, we employ strict filters on the ad server.

Step 2: In our second step, we have a special code in Monumetric ad tags which scans every single ad creative for malvertising and blocks it if necessary.

Step 3: Our third step blocks bad ads from filling the ad impression through our specific algorithm built to beat the worst of the malvertising offenders.

Step 4: If a bad actor does slip through, our fourth defense is to use our proprietary technology on your site to best track the ad so that we can report it to our advertisers to prevent it from happening again.

Step 5: If the bad actor continues to persist, we use our fifth step to replicate the ad across web servers around the globe, trace it back to its origin, and then notify our advertising partners to block it completely.

While no system or company has proven to block 100% of bad actors, we have reduced the number of bad ads across the Monumetric ecosystem by 96%. We continue to test new solutions and block new workarounds to keep our publishers and their audiences safe.

If you see a redirect on your site please email a screenshot or the URL to success@monumetric.com, so we can track and identify the issue and report and block it as soon as possible.
