Frequently asked questions about the Video Player:

  1. Can I use this player for my own video? Unfortunately not at this time.
  2. What kind of video content will play before video ads? We have a mix of niche-specific content as well as top-tier editorial content to make sure your audience sees as relevant video content as possible.
  3. Where will the video player show up on my site? The placement that advertisers will pay the most revenue for is in the middle of your content by the real estate that readers will be most engaged with. We will default to implementing it in the middle of the content and are happy to tailor its location elsewhere as requested. Please note that performance may decrease if the player is not in a preferred location.
  4. What size is the video player? The player has an aspect ratio of 16:9 so whatever width your content column is, the player will fit appropriately.
  5. How will the player affect site speed? We know speed is important to our publishers and have optimized the code behind the player so that it will only load if it is making you money. No valuable ad, no video player.
  6. Where can I see the performance of the video player? In the Ad Performance dashboard of your Console find the Ad Type drop-down next to the Date Range selector on the right-hand side. Select “Video” and refresh.
  7. How much can I expect to make from running the editorial video player? The average video RPM we see from running this player is $2.50 but as with all ads, performance varies on each website. Our ability to improve earnings depends on your willingness to run the player to increase the volume of ad calls. The more ad calls that come from the video player, the more advertising demand we will be able to offer, and the more money you will make! This will take a network effort and we hope that you can do your part to run the player and increase the collective video ad volume!
  8. Will the sound play automatically? No, we turn off all audio on the ads. Videos will automatically play without sound so no user initiation is necessary.
  9. Why use the Monumetric video player as opposed to embedding your own video into your content? Embedding your videos in your content does not open them to advertising demand. By running through our player, we can monetize the video with a pre-roll or post-roll ad.
  10. What are the minimum and maximum lengths of videos that will play in the video box? The minimum is at least 30 seconds and there is no maximum length limit.
  11. Will the video player have a preview thumbnail so it’s clear that it’s an ad and not one of our own embedded videos? The thumbnail will only show if it is your own video that has been created and uploaded.
  12. Does the video player have to float to a corner after it is scrolled past? Choosing the float feature on your video means that after the video player has been seen within the content and is scrolled past, it resizes to a smaller video player and slides into the preferred bottom corner of your site. We highly recommend choosing to have your player float to increase its viewability. Increasing viewability for any ad, especially high-performing ads like the video player, will give more exposure to readers and therefore improve the CPMs advertisers will pay for the unit.
